more audio always uploading…

After more than 30 years in the business you tend to have quite a library of audio. I’m uploading as fast as I can so stay tuned as more and more appears on the site.

This area contains a variety of audio. Click on the square to play or pause. I’ll be adding more and more in the coming weeks so keep checking in to see what else I’ve added to my portfolio (and giant thanks to Meghan Cassin – cause without her this whole site would suck as bad as my last site. She’s the one totally behind making all this happen).

The Morning Briefing This is a sample of what The Morning Briefing show on XM Satellite Radio’s POTUS 08 channel sounded like. Sure we had big name guests, we did the news, we were totally serious and respectful about the process – but we really were proud of the tone of the program; we didn’t take ourselves too seriously and we never ever forgot about the audience – hope you like it.

GRAMMY Live Coverage¬†As the official satellite radio partner of the GRAMMYs, we did hundreds of hours of broadcasting from various Recording Academy events. This is the first hour of a live broadcast from Los Angeles leading up to the Recording Academy’s news conference during which they announced their plans for the milestone 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards.

History Today This is a short form feature that ran across the XM Satellite Radio platform. It’s a daily 60 second “today in history” vignette. There were 366 of these (one for leap years too!).

GRAMMY Moment Another short form feature I produced ran in the run-up to the 48th Annual GRAMMY Awards. These 30 second features promoted the history of the GRAMMYs and XM’s involvement.

Live Shuttle Launch I covered many shuttle launches from the Kennedy Space Center and Johnson in Texas. This launch was the first after the Columbia disaster – the second return to space for the shuttle program I covered – having also broadcast live the launch of the first shuttle up after the Challenger disaster.

WOR-AM New York I worked at WOR-AM in the late 80′s. It was a great time. While the use of natural sound and conversational delivery is the norm today – it was not in 1987. I had two great bosses who hired me because of the style and backed me totally as I cranked it out in one of the (at the time) most conservative sounding markets in the country. I loved working at this station.

Crash of Pan Am Flight 103 When I worked for WOR-AM in New York, I covered the crash of Pan Am Flight 103 – blown out of the air by a bomb over Scotland. In this report on the station’s nightly Daily News Show I appeared live from Lockerbie.

RKO Radio Network On May 9th, 1980 a freighter slammed into the Sunshine Skyway Bridge which spanned Tampa Bay. A section of the bridge collapsed. I covered the story for the RKO Radio network.

CBS Radio Network I would place this audio around 1983 or so. It’s not like this was an unusual story for Miami in those days but it was always cool to make the network newscast.

Live from Los Angeles One of the highlights of GRAMMY week in Los Angeles is the Clive Davis party. It’s an A-List invitation only only affair with some truly amazing music performances. We broadcast the party live from LA in 2006 and this is the first hour of the show.

Karl Rove interview I interviewed Karl Rove several times during the 2008 Presidential election. This interview took place in the POTUS 08 skybox at the Republican Convention in St. Paul. He was always very funny – and very interesting.

WINZ-AM Miami WINZ-AM Miami series on Miami’s image. This was the time period of racial unrest, riots, cocaine cowboys, Cuban bombings and hijackings, Haitians washing ashore and generally bad things. This series looked at the storied city where it had come from and where it might be going.

WINZ-AM Miami Where the Boys Are became Where did the Boys go. This series, for Miami’s NewsRadio 94 WINZ, took a look at Spring Break shifting from South Florida to other parts of the state.

WINZ-AM MiamiI loved anchoring the news at WINZ NewsRadio 94 in Miami. The station was pretty much an all news format except for a few talk shows here and there on the weekends and such. What’s really interesting about these recordings are the history embedded in the days news. For example in this newscast, the Space Shuttle Challenger returns to Earth after its madden voyage.

WINZ-AM Miami While at WOR-AM in New York I traveled to Nicaragua and three other Central American nations with a delegation on a peacekeeping mission. Our first stop was in Miami to meet with the Contra leaders. As part of this stop I appeared as a guest on WINZ-AM in Miami with Frank Mottek to talk about the trip.

WDAE-AM and WPLP-AM Tampa Bay These were two of the first radio stations I ever worked at as a full time newsperson. This is where I really cut my teeth. I was very young, but you can hear the genisis of the “style” that I eventually became known for.
