more audio always uploading…

After more than 30 years in the business you tend to have quite a library of audio. I’m uploading as fast as I can so stay tuned as more and more appears on the site.

Miami

WINZ NewsRadio 94 in Miami. This was a great station. All news format, a truly tremendous staff in the most dynamic news town I’ve ever worked. Despite the great experiences I had in New York and Washington DC – I had the most fun working at this station maybe because of the times, my age and the fact that it was my hometown – but I really loved working at this station.

WINZ-AM Miami series on Miami’s image. This was the time period of racial unrest, riots, cocaine cowboys, Cuban bombings and hijackings, Haitians washing ashore and generally bad things. This series looked at the storied city where it had come from and where it might be going.

Where the Boys Are became Where did the Boys go. This series, for Miami’s NewsRadio 94 WINZ, took a look at Spring Break shifting from South Florida to other parts of the state.

I loved anchoring the news at WINZ NewsRadio 94 in Miami. The station was pretty much an all news format except for a few talk shows here and there on the weekends and such. What’s really interesting about these recordings are the history embedded in the days news. For example in these newscasts, the Space Shuttle Challenger returns to Earth after its madden voyage and the Dolphins announce they’ve signed Dan Marino:

CBS Radio Network from Miami. I would place this audio around 1983 or so. It’s not like this was an unusual story for Miami in those days but it was always cool to make the network newscast.

While at WOR-AM in New York I traveled to Nicaragua and three other Central American nations with a delegation on a peacekeeping mission. Our first stop was in Miami to meet with the Contra leaders. As part of this stop I appeared as a guest on WINZ-AM in Miami with Frank Mottek to talk about the trip.

WDAE-AM and WPLP-AM Tampa Bay. These were two of the first radio stations I ever worked at as a full time newsperson. This is where I really cut my teeth. I was very young, but you can hear the genisis of the “style” that I eventually became known for.

WIOD-AM in Miami. I was so proud to work here. I grew up listening to this station, a heritage MOR station with some really big name hosts. I did the top of the hour news, leading into the ABC newscast.
